Description (Translated):

The place where I drove and stopped was the same confetti hotel I saw on TV.

It was because one night at the Confetti Hotel was such a big challenge.

Yes, let's hit it! I closed my eyes and opened the lobby door.
The first thing that caught my eye when I entered the lobby was the floor covered with confetti.
When I looked up, a bellboy wearing a colorful uniform caught my eye.

After checking in, I went into my room and opened my suitcase.
What's inside is a few clothes and underwear... And a book worth reading...
I felt a little embarrassed that I had brought a suitcase that was too big for the luggage inside.

Looking around the room, I saw the wallpaper and bed made of luxurious colored paper.
The closet was also made of colored paper, but when I hung it on a hanger, I was surprised that it felt stronger than I thought.
Outside the window, it feels like a gray city, but here, from the rooms to the hallways and the bellboy's outfits, the colors are so contrasting that I felt good.

It felt like just another hotel.

Description (Original):

차를 타고 멈춰 선 곳은 TV에서 보았던 바로 그 색종이 호텔이었다.
뭔가 어린 시절의 좋았던 추억 비슷한걸 여기서 느낄 수 있지 않을까? 라는 막연한 기대감만을 가지고 온 나였기에 호텔 로비로 들어서기 전에 잠시 주저하게 되었다.

그저 도시 속에서 작은 방을 껍데기 삼아 살아온 나에게
색종이 호텔에서의 1박은 너무나 큰 도전이었기 때문이다.
하지만 여기서 돌아간다면 나는 또다시 작은 방에서 웅크릴 것이 뻔했고
그런 나를 생각하니 너무나도 싫었다.

그래 한번 부딪혀보자! 라는 생각으로 눈을 딱 감고 로비 문을 열었다.
로비에 들어서자 처음으로 눈에 들어온 것은 색종이가 잔뜩 깔린 바닥이었고
고개를 들자 화려한 색상의 유니폼을 입고 있는 벨보이가 눈에 들어왔다.

체크인하고 나서 내 방에 들어와 캐리어를 열었다.
그 안에 들어있는 것은 옷 몇 가지와 속옷… 그리고 간단하게 읽을만한 책...
들어있는 짐에 비해 너무나 커다란 캐리어를 챙겨온 게 살짝 머쓱해졌다.

방을 한번 둘러보니 고급스러운 색종이로 만들어진 벽지와 침대도 보였다.
옷장 또한 색종이였는데 행거에 살짝 매달려보니 생각보다 튼튼한 느낌에 놀랐다.
창밖은 회색 도시 같은 느낌인데 이곳은 방부터 복도, 벨보이 의상까지 색이 칠해져 있는 것이 너무나도 대비되는 느낌에 기분이 좋았다.

하지만 얼마 지나지 않아 이 색깔들에 눈이 익숙해질 무렵 나에게는
그저 또 하나의 호텔같은 느낌밖에 들지 않았다.
결국에 있는 것은 침대, 옷장이 거의 전부인 그저 호텔방...

모든 사람과 나의 작은 방에서 마음 편히 벗어나
새로운 나를 찾아서 온 이곳마저 결국에는 내가 항상 느껴오던 작은 방이라는 생각에 내가 너무 큰 기대를 품었나 하고 살짝 서글퍼졌다.

문득 짐을 옮겨주던 벨보이가 지하에 bar가 있다고 했던 게 떠올랐다.
역시 이런 기분일 때는 술이 최고지 싶어서 바로 지하에 위치한 bar로 발걸음을 향했다.
넓은 라운지에 샹들리에 그리고 샹들리에의 빛에 반사되어 빛나는 색종이들.

나는 곧장 바텐더에게 가서 술을 한 잔 시켰다.
옆을 보니 아까 로비에서 보았던 여자가 보였다.
혼자서 술을 마시는 그녀를 보니 살짝 관심이 생겼다. 무슨 이유로 이곳을 온 걸까?

"안녕하세요"
술을 마시다가 누군가 내 어깨를 치며 인사를 했다.
고개를 돌려 쳐다보니 내가 아까부터 신경 쓰던 그 여자였다.
"혹시 괜찮으시면 옆에서 같이 마셔도 될까요?"

그렇게 둘이 한참 이야기를 했다.
그녀가 피겨를 했다는 이야기, 그리고 처절한 실패의 이야기
어린 시절의 자신을 찾고 싶어서 왔다는 이야기까지 뭔가 나와 다른 인생을 살아온 사람의 이야기지만 어딘가 나와 참 닮아있는 이야기라고 생각이 들었다.

나 역시 도시에서 적응을 힘들어하는 이야기나 회사생활 이야기를 해주었고 내 자취방은 마치 나의 껍데기와 같다고 이야기했을 때 그녀는 손뼉을 치며 공감해주었다.
밤이 되고 나는 다시 호텔 방으로 돌아왔다.

색종이 호텔은 어린 시절만의 특별한 경험을 주는 곳일 것으로 생각했던 나였지만
결국 여기서 만나는 건 어린아이의 마음을 아직 간직한 어른들이었다.
어쩌면 이 도시 속에서 결국 우리는 같은 감정을 공유해 줄 사람이 필요했던 것은 아니었을까?

바닥에 펼쳐져 있는 빈 캐리어를 정리하는데 그 캐리어는 짐을 다 빼놓아서 빈 캐리어였지만
무언가 가지고 올 때 보다 더 무거워진 느낌이었다.
색종이 호텔은 그냥 호텔이 아니었다.
나는 이곳이 맘에 든다.
