… To summarize roughly, we have been talking for a long time about ‘what cannot be helped.’
But even when he was sure of something, he didn't try to speak in a definitive manner.

I liked the way he spoke indirectly like that, because it felt like words of comfort.
Of course, sometimes when there is nowhere else to run, I think that in the end, this too is nothing more than a stopgap measure.

So let me be clear.

We will all fail, as we already knew.

but,

I want to convey that the real important thing starts after you accept it.
I want to understand the weight that people who can smile with an indifferent expression are carrying.
I want to first find the darkness that is not revealed and stay in it together.

And then, as if nothing had happened, we just had to continue on our way, cheering each other on.
I still don't know if it's necessary to wander around like this.

But still, it must be done.

Let's put off all the stories we want to tell until after the 'only' that follows.


[Album Introduction]
"We All Know We Will Fail" is Broccoli You Too's fourth album.

A full-length album in five years following the third album “Vulgar People” released in 2019.
It was arranged and performed by Deokwon on bass and vocals, Jandi on piano and keyboard, and Ryuji on drums and vocals.
Donghyuk, who has been playing guitar during live performances, has joined as an official member.

It contains a total of 12 songs and the running time is approximately 50 minutes.

Keywords that run through the entire album are the feeling of being worn out and worn out. Images of soaring and falling. And the dizzying feeling of being somewhere between something that lasts forever and something that slowly disappears. Both the lyrics and the performance are metaphorical compared to recent works, but the overall picture that is being expressed feels clearer. It's just that it's hard to explain in one word what it is.

The song "I Don't Want to Try Too Hard" that starts this album feels like an extension of the EP "I Feel Like I Have to Do Something Somehow" released in 2021. Likewise, the last song "Eternal Love" draws a big circle back to the first album "Universal Song" and expands Broccoli You Too's musical world. It's like we all know we'll fail, but we're still dancing a long dance.

There is a saying that a song that has been released into the world can no longer remain in one's hands, but that is not necessarily the case. In the process of continuously releasing works and continuing to move forward, the musician's past footsteps meet a new context and are reborn anew. Refurbishing and cultivating 'songs that can only remain as long as they are sung by themselves' is what Broccoli You Too has done best over the years, and this album proves that it will continue to do so in the future.


In “Laundry Revolution,” Choi Elbi was in charge of rap.
Park Sung-ryong participated in percussion and Lee Oh-reum participated in vocal direction.

The chorus in “Wing” and “Eternal Love” is the voices of the audience who participated in the “Affectionate Music Concert” performance in May 2024 and the staff of Sangsang Madang Chuncheon.

The recording took place at Sangsang Madang Chuncheon Live Studio as part of Sangsang Madang Chuncheon’s Recording & Play Project. Recording and mixing were directed by Lee Dong-hee, with Shin Su-min assisting. Some tracks were recorded by Yoon Deok-won at Studio Broccoli. Mastering was done by JFS Mastering’s Sung Ji-hoon and director Ryu Kyung-min.

The album artwork and logo were created by Kim Ki-jo, and the design was created by Kim Ki-jo and Byun In-hee. The cover was photographed by Nam Joong-hyo, the profile photos were taken by Yoo Yeon, Hwang Yoon-rim, and Choi Jun-hee, and the makeup was done by Yoon Ji-young. Kwon Chul and Jeon Yong-hyun each produced a music video.

우리는 모두 실패할 것이다.

…거칠게 요약하면, '어쩔 수 없는 것'에 대해서 오래 이야기해 왔다.
하지만 무언가를 확신하고 있을 때에도 애써 단정하는 투로 이야기하지는 않았다.

그렇게 에둘러 이야기하는 방식은 위로의 말처럼 느껴져서 좋았다.
물론 때로 더 이상 피할 곳이 없을 때에는 결국 이 또한 미봉책에 지나지 않는가 하는 생각도 들었다.

그래서 단정적으로 말하겠다.

우리는 모두 실패할 것이다. 이미 알고 있던 것처럼.

다만,

진짜 중요한 것은 그 것을 받아들인 다음부터 시작된다는 사실을 전하고 싶다.
아무렇지 않은 표정으로 웃어줄 수 있는 사람이 감당하고 있는 무게를 이해하고 싶다.
드러내지 않는 어둠을 먼저 찾아내어 그 속에 함께 머무르고 싶다.

그리고는 별 일 없던 마냥 가던 길을 계속해서, 서로의 존재를 응원하면서 그저 나아갈 수밖에 없다.
굳이 이렇게 헤매어야 하는지 그 당위성은 아직 잘 모르겠다.

그럼에도 아직은 그래도 해야 한다.

하고 싶은 모든 이야기는 이어지는 '다만' 뒤로 미루어 놓기로 하자.


[앨범소개]
《우리는 모두 실패할 것을 알고 있어요》는 브로콜리너마저의 4집 앨범이다.

2019년 발표한 3집 《속물들》에 이은 5년 만의 정규 앨범.
베이스와 보컬에 덕원, 피아노와 건반에 잔디, 드럼과 보컬에 류지가 편곡하고 연주했으며
그동안 라이브에서 기타 연주를 맡아오던 동혁이 정식 멤버로 합류했다.

모두 12곡이 수록되어 있으며 러닝타임은 약 50분.

앨범 전체를 관통하는 키워드는 낡고 닳아가는 감각. 날아 오름과 추락의 이미지. 그리고 영원히 이어지는 것과 천천히 소멸하는 것 사이 어딘가에 위치하며 느끼는 어지러운 무언가이다. 가사와 연주 모두 최근작들에 비해 은유적이지만 전체적으로 나타내고자 하는 그림은 더욱 또렷하게 느껴진다. 다만 그것이 무엇인지 한마디로 설명하기 어려울 뿐.

이번 앨범을 시작하는 〈너무 애쓰고 싶지 않아요〉는 2021년에 발표한 EP 《어떻게든 뭐라도 해야 할 것 같아서》의 연장선처럼 느껴진다. 마찬가지로 마지막 곡 〈영원한 사랑〉은 다시 1집 《보편적인 노래》로 돌아가는 큰 원을 그리며 브로콜리너마저의 음악 세계를 확장한다. 우리는 모두 실패할 것을 알고 있지만 그럼에도 긴 춤을 추고 있는 것처럼.

한번 세상에 나온 노래는 더 이상 자신의 손안에 머물러 있을 수 없다는 말도 있지만, 꼭 그렇지는 않다. 계속해서 작품을 발표하고 지속적인 행보를 이어 나가는 과정에서 음악가의 지나온 발자국들은 새로운 맥락을 만나 새롭게 탄생한다. '스스로 불러주는 만큼만 머물러 있을 수 있는 노래들'을 다시 단장하고 가꾸는 것은 지난 시간을 거치며 브로콜리너마저가 가장 잘 해온 일이며 앞으로도 그럴 것임을 이번 앨범은 증명하고 있다.


〈세탁혁명〉에서는 최엘비가 랩을 맡았다.
퍼커션에 박성룡, 보컬 디렉팅으로 이오늘이 참여했다.

〈윙〉과 〈영원한 사랑〉에 나오는 합창은 2024년 5월 《다정한 음감회》 공연에 참여한 관객들과 상상마당 춘천 스태프들의 목소리이다.

녹음은 상상마당 춘천의 레코딩 앤 플레이 프로젝트의 일환으로 상상마당 춘천 라이브스튜디오에서 진행되었다. 레코딩과 믹싱은 이동희 감독이 맡고 신수민이 보조했다. 일부 트랙은 스튜디오 브로콜리에서 윤덕원이 녹음했다. 마스터링은 JFS 마스터링 성지훈, 류경민 감독이 맡았다.

앨범 아트워크와 로고는 김기조가, 디자인은 김기조와 변인희가 함께 작업했다. 커버 촬영은 남중효, 프로필 사진은 유연이 황윤림, 최준희와 함께 했고, 분장은 윤지영이 맡았다. 권철과 전용현이 각각 한편의 뮤직비디오를 제작했다.
