New Christian Song Movement

Huangpuha and Little Flame – [Sing Together]

The new song movement, [Sing Together], started by folk musician Hwang Pu-ha, appeared in the world through the book [Sing Together] published in the summer of 2022. A new song movement was started to overcome the limitations of conservative theology and Christian culture in Christian songs. Starting from the Okbaraji Alley struggle against redevelopment in 2016, it is now becoming a song movement where many people sing together in various painful scenes and gatherings that dream of alternatives.
This time, they are challenging themselves with the EP album release with the choir 'Little Flame', with which they first started singing those songs. A total of 6 songs are included, including 'There is an Empty Seat' and 'The Lord's Prayer', which were loved by many among the songs they sang together.
Arranging and recording a choir of twenty members was a huge challenge. I have never prepared this many monitors in a recording studio. However, the delicate yet dignified harmony of the small flames fully recorded their passion for the values and beliefs they pursue. As always, contrabassist Jeong Su-min, who accompanies Hwang Pu-ha, participated, and Studio Log was in charge of recording, mixing, and mastering. Min Sang-yong played drums, Bok Da-jin, and Park Se-ron played upright piano. And Choi Ha-eun, a clarinetist from the Kamkam Band that supports the struggle sites, participated in one song.
[Sing Together] is a project album, and of course, it is different from Huangpuha's existing folk albums. Also, as shown in the lyrics, the songs have strong religious overtones. However, the reason the genre of the album was placed as folk instead of CCM is because it is not different from the direction of Huangpuha's existing music. An album that contains such stories as conceptual stories, but also everyday stories, emotional and religious feelings, but political and social feelings, is not a folk album that worships a specific object, but contains stories about the world we live in.

새로운 기독교 노래 운동

황푸하와 작은불꽃 – [함께 부르기]

포크 뮤지션 황푸하가 새롭게 시작한 노래 운동, [함께 부르기]는 지난 2022년 여름에 출간한 책 [함께 부르기]를 통해 세상에 나타났다. 보수적인 신학과 기독교 문화의 한계 앞에 마주한 기독교 노래를 극복하고자 새로운 노래 운동을 시작했다. 2016년 재개발에 맞선 옥바라지 골목 투쟁 현장에서 출발하여 이제는 여러 아픔의 현장과 대안을 꿈꾸는 모임 안에서 많은 이들이 함께 부르게 되는 노래 운동으로 자리를 잡아가고 있다.
이번에는 그 노래들을 처음에 함께 부르기 시작했던 합창단 '작은불꽃'과 함께 EP 앨범 발매에 도전한다. 함께 부르기 노래들 가운데 많은 이들의 사랑을 받은 '빈자리 있습니다', '주의 기도'를 비롯해 총 6곡이 수록됐다.
스무 명의 합창단 편곡과 녹음은 큰 도전이었다. 녹음실에서도 이렇게 많은 모니터를 준비해본 적이 없었다. 그러나 섬세하면서도 당당한 작은불꽃의 화음 안에는 그들이 추구하는 가치와 믿음을 향한 열정이 고스란히 녹음되었다. 늘 그렇듯 황푸하와 함께하는 콘트라베이스 정수민이 함께했고, 스튜디오 로그가 녹음과 믹싱, 마스터링 작업을 맡았다. 드럼에는 민상용, 복다진과 박세론이 업라이트 피아노를 연주했다. 그리고 투쟁 현장 곳곳에서 연대하는 캄캄밴드의 클라리넷 최하은이 한 곡에 참여했다.
[함께 부르기]는 프로젝트 앨범이고, 물론 기존 황푸하의 포크 음반과는 다른 면이 있다. 또 가사에서도 나타나지만 종교색이 짙은 노래들이다. 그러나 앨범의 장르를 CCM이 아니라 포크로 배치한 것은 기존 황푸하 음악의 방향과 다르지 않기 때문이다. 관념적인 이야기, 그러나 일상적인 이야기, 감성적이고 종교적인 느낌, 그러나 정치적이고 사회적인 느낌, 이런 이야기를 담은 앨범은 특정한 대상을 숭배하는 것이 아니라, 우리 사는 세상 이야기를 담은 포크라고 할 수 있겠다.
