1. Music

When I was very young, we had a Mickey Mouse clock that we bought at Disneyland. When we pressed the button on the top of the clock, Disney music flowed out in a monotone, and every morning my brother and I would wake up to the sound of that music. I thought of one Sunday morning with that clock. Everyone in the family except me was awake and sitting around my bed. My brother would tell us to get up quickly and play the music in the clock one by one. I woke up to the sound of the music and asked them to play a certain song again, and everyone quietly listened to that monotone music. That was the first feeling I remember of music, and I wanted to record that moment.

2. FLASH

Now, it's about me, who craves music. It's about me, who craves inspiration. I go to the studio every day, sit down in front of my mom's piano, and crave a flash of light. And that's my job. My dream of music was grand.

3. I will die for you♥x3

Finger snap one day!
That moment. This is the moment. My decision to die for something. Decisions are not of time, but of the moment.

As the game usually goes three times, I often feel a sense of urgency, thinking that I had three lives and would have died at least twice. This song is about deciding that when I have one more life left, I will be able to jump into something I dedicate myself to, like the main character in my favorite poem - Circus Woman -, like the War Boys in Mad Max, or like Iron Man in Avengers. It is also a song dedicated to the fans who love our music, and so it is also a song about music itself.

4. In the name of love! (feat. Karina of aespa)

One day, I decided to write a song titled <In the Name of Love-> and was walking down the streets of New York with the mindset of writing some great love epic.
I started thinking about that moment of clarity when “I love you and you love me too” and decided to capture the preciousness of that moment in a song.
Complicated thoughts break down moments and try to read them out, and then they keep getting stuck. Our brains’ computational ability can’t keep up with the moments that pass by quickly. There’s no other way than to become simple. Simplicity is the most youthful face of the truths that have survived in this era. We don’t want to see, we don’t want to feel, we don’t want to read and interpret. Only then can we fill that empty space with laughter and tears and run. In the name of love! Quickly! And yet affectionately!

Rather than simply a love song limited to romance, I wanted to portray an image of youth that looks at the sensibilities of the times we live in. But mysteriously! Maybe that's why, at some point while writing the song, I thought to myself that if I collaborated with Karina, this song would be completed. Thank you for working with me like this. I hope we can always have good music together!

5. I watched the sunset alone on the rooftop.

This song is just my story. I feel sorry for the many people who have been with me, as much as I am grateful. I wanted to live a good life, but things don't go as I want. I'm short-sighted and keep making the same mistakes. Do I have to ignore reality just because I'm a musician? I can't.

7. All the Boys and Girls 1: Birdman

Two years ago, I heard a story about the Moai statues at the British Museum. It was about the rise and fall of Easter Island, but it was a unique interpretation by the docent, and it was not confirmed. Along with that, it was a story that had been inflated in my head for two years.
There were ancestors who cut down all the trees to build the Moai, and their descendants who were resentful and tore down all the Moai, and among the descendants of those descendants was the Birdman tribe. They rebuilt the Moai, turned them toward the sea, and carved a new sun rising over the horizon and the Birdman, their tribe's symbol, on the backs of the statues. This is a story I made up in my own way.
Then I am a birdman wearing a mask and flapping my wings in the air!
It was! But now it's time to take off the mask and shake off the tangled hair. The past glory and the distant anticipation of the future that sucks us in like a black hole make life stop. Ah, dreams. Dreams are oriented toward the past. I think they're just promises to my younger self.

1. 뮤직

아주 어릴 적 우리 집엔 디즈니랜드에서 사 온 미키 마우스 시계가 있었습니다. 정수리에 있는 버튼을 누르면 디즈니 음악이 단선율로 흘러나왔었는데, 아침이면 우리 형제는 그 음악 소리에 눈을 떴어요. 그 시계와 함께 한 어느 일요일 아침을 생각했습니다. 나를 제외한 모든 식구가 잠에서 깨어 내 이부자리에 둘러앉아 있었고. 형은 어서 일어나라며 시계 속 음악을 한 곡 한 곡 돌려 틀어주었던 아침.. 나는 흘러나오는 음악 소리에 잠에서 깨어 어떤 한 곡을 다시 틀어 달라고 부탁을 했고 모두가 조용히 그 단선율 음악에 귀를 기울였던 아침의 장면입니다. 그게 제가 기억하는 음악의 첫 느낌이었고 그 순간을 기록하고 싶었습니다.

2. FLASH

이제는 음악을 갈구하는 나. 영감을 갈구하는 나에 대한 이야기입니다. 매일 작업실로 출근해 엄마의 피아노 앞에 앉아서 찰나의 섬광을 원하고 있습니다. 그리고 그게 제 직업입니다. 제가 꾸던 음악의 꿈은 원대했습니다.

3. 아윌다이포유♥x3

그 어느 날의 핑거스냅!
그 찰나. 이곳은 순간. 내가 무언가를 위해 죽기로 한 결심. 결심은 시간의 것이 아닌 순간의 것이다.

보통 게임이 삼세판이듯, 나에게는 세 개의 목숨이 있었고 최소 두 번은 죽었을 거라는 아슬아슬한 기분을 느낄 때가 잦습니다. 나머지 하나의 목숨이 남았을 때 내가 좋아하는 시 -서커스의 여자- 속 주인공처럼, 영화 매드맥스의 워보이들처럼, 어벤져스의 아이언맨처럼 헌신할 무언가를 위해 뛰어들 수 있으리라고 결심하는 노래입니다. 우리 음악을 사랑해 주는 팬들에게 바치는 노래이기도 하고 그래서 곧 음악 그 자체에 대한 곡이기도 합니다.

4. 사랑의이름으로! (feat. 카리나 of aespa)

<사랑의 이름으로->라는 제목의 노래를 쓰겠다 결심을 하고, 무슨 대단한 사랑의 서사시를 쓰겠다는 마음가짐으로 뉴욕 거리를 활보하던 어느 날.
“나는 너를 사랑하고 너도 나를 사랑하는” 그 찰나의 명쾌한 기분에 대해서 생각하게 되었고 그 순간의 소중함을 곡에 녹여 내겠다 생각했습니다.
복잡한 생각은 순간을 분해하고 읽어 내려 들다가 자꾸 뻑이 납니다. 빠르게 지나치는 순간들을 우리 두뇌의 연산 능력은 따라가 주질 못합니다. 단순해지는 것 이외에는 방도가 없습니다. 단순함은 이 시대에 살아남은 진리들 중 가장 앳된 얼굴을 하고 있습니다. 보려 하지 않고, 느끼려 들지 않고, 읽고 해석하려 들지 않기를 원합니다. 그제서야 그 빈 공간으로 웃음과 울음을 가득 채우고 우린 내달릴 수 있습니다. 사랑의이름으로! 잽싸게! 그럼에도 다정하게!

단순히 연애에만 국한되는 사랑노래가 아닌, 우리가 살고 있는 이 시대의 감각을 바라보는 젊음의 이미지를 그려보고자 했습니다. 그러나 신비롭게! 그래서인지 곡을 쓰던 어느 순간부터 카리나님과 협업한다면 이 곡이 완성될 거라고 혼자 생각했었는데, 이렇게 함께해 주셔서 감사드립니다. 늘 좋은 음악이 함께 하길 바랍니다!

5. 옥상에서 혼자 노을을 봤음

이 곡은 그냥 제 이야기입니다. 함께 해 온 수많은 사람들에게 고마운 만큼이나 미안하기도 합니다. 좋은 삶을 살고 싶었습니다만, 제 뜻대로 되지가 않네요. 생각이 짧은 나는 자꾸만 같은 류의 실수를 반복합니다. 음악하는 사람이라고 현실을 외면해서야 쓰나요. 안되죠.

2년 전 대영박물관에서 모아이 석상에 얽힌 이야기를 들었어요. 이스터섬의 흥망성쇠에 관한 것이었는데, 사실 확인은 되지 않은 도슨트 선생님만의 독특한 해석이었고. 그와 더불어 내 머릿속에서 2년간 부풀려진 이야기..
모아이를 세우느라 온 나무를 베어버린 선조들과 그들이 원망스러워 모아이를 다 쓰러트린 후손들이 있었고, 그 후손들의 후손 중엔 버드맨 부족이 있었답니다. 그들은 모아이를 다시 세워 바다를 향해 돌려놓았고 석상의 등에다 수평선 위로 떠오르는 새로운 태양과 부족의 상징 버드맨을 새겨 놓았다고 합니다.라는 내 식대로 가공된 이야기.
그럼 나는 탈을 쓰고 허공에 날갯짓을 하는 버드맨!
이었다! 그치만 이젠 탈을 벗고 헝클어진 머리를 털어야 할 때. 과거의 영광과 블랙홀처럼 우릴 빨아들이는 미래를 향한 아득한 기대감은 인생을 멈추게도 합니다. 아 꿈. 꿈은 과거지향적이라구요. 어린 나와의 약속에 불과하다고 생각합니다.
