The first thing that catches your eye is the provocative album title, ‘The Curse of Romanticism.’ When you play the album, it is full of love songs with an emphasis on romance rather than curses. Could it be that that sweet moment of love is a curse that portends impending destruction? But are you still going to keep this romance intact? Romance (浪漫), romance (ろうまん), romance (ろうまん), always holds curses and blessings tightly in both hands, then releases them and embraces the sacrifice, not knowing which comes first.
In literary history, romanticism emerged as a counterattack against the Enlightenment and classicism. When the belief that all life and art seemed to follow certain laws, that reason was victorious in the war between reason and irrationality, that true freedom was given to humanity, and that even beauty had a form became widespread, people's emotions suddenly exploded. did. Aesthetics flowed freely. Artists suffered from neurosis and depression, and musicians looked inward more than outwardly. [Curse of romanticism] is the first full-length album by composer and singer-songwriter Luca minor, who performed on the Rising Festival stage of the 20th Jarasum Jazz Festival this year. We live in an era where it has become natural to prioritize practicality, reality, cost-effectiveness, and short-term pleasure in our harsh daily lives. At a time when it would seem more productive for young musicians to think about how to get on Spotify or various playlists or how to produce short-form content, Luca minor prepared an 11-song full-length album instead of a single. In terms of theme and lyrics, I was not conscious of the prevalence of personal information in the form of Gyeongsu-pil. He just persistently dug into the memories and fragments of love hidden in the back of his mind, and passionately digested them into a pop standard-style jazz ballad about not being able to stop loving oneself.
Except for one song, the songs on the album, all of which were written and composed by Luca minor, go back and forth between summer and winter, and the actual season and the season of love intersect. '낭만주의의 저주'라는 도발적인 앨범 타이틀이 먼저 눈에 띈다. 막상 앨범을 재생해보면 저주보 다 낭만 쪽에 방점이 잔뜩 찍힌 사랑 노래가 가득하다. 바로 그 달콤한 사랑의 순간이 곧 다가올 멸망을 예고하는 저주라도 된다는 걸까? 그런데도 이 낭만을 고스란히 품겠다는 걸까? 낭만(浪漫) 이란, 로망(ろうまん)이란, 로맨스(romance)란 늘 그렇게 저주와 축복을 양손에 꼭 쥐었다가 무엇 이 먼저일지 모르게 풀어놓으며 제물을 껴안는다.
