The first vinyl released by Rooftop Moonlight since its debut.

Third regular album [40]

Everyone has a moment when they are indebted to Rooftop Moonlight’s music. Their musical role in reaching out to me when my youth feels shabby is clear. “Rooftop Moonlight is an icon of comfort and healing.” However, the agony and weight that the artist experienced must have been present in this sentence, embedded like a proposition.

In a past interview, Rooftop Dalbit said, “As I write music, I gradually have less and less to talk about.” Since I have gathered all the comfort I can and spread them out, I no longer know what message I should use to reach the public. After a long period of deliberation, Rooftop Moonlight releases its third full-length album [40], written with a sharply sharpened pencil.

The regular album [40] contains Rooftop Moonlight's extremely personal and human joys and sorrows. Yunju Kim and Sejin Park, who have been singing together since their 20s, are now in their 40s. It is difficult to define the weight of accumulated time in one sentence. As I spent this time, my outlook on the world must have become a little lazy and calm to some extent. Also, regardless of time, there are still hardships that break them down. The 11 tracks included in the regular album were created by carefully boiling down the story of Rooftop Moonlight's 'maturity' and 'growth'.

The meaning of 'maturity' and 'growth' contained in the regular album [40] is closer to the meaning of 'flow' than the concept of growing and developing. As these heavy years pass by, what is the story that Rooftop Moonlight still protects or has changed? I have a strange confidence that perhaps these self-confessional tracks will reach people with ‘Rok Sang Moonlight-like comfort.’

※ Poor playback
1) If you are using a turntable without a tone arm or weight adjustment function (mainly all-in-one models), a bouncing phenomenon may occur when playing tracks with large differences in dynamic sound. This is mostly caused by the light tone arm weight.

1) The disc surface may become uneven or curved. Returns or exchanges are only possible if there is a problem with playback.
2) In some cases, the disc center hole diameter is made small to minimize distortion of the playback sound range and remain as consistent as possible even during repeated playback. If it does not fit the turntable spindle, adjust the center hole using a dedicated product.
3) Occasionally, there may be fine scratches left on the disc or the finish may not be clean. Returns or exchanges are only possible if there is a problem with playback.

옥상달빛이 데뷔 이래 첫 번째로 선보이는 바이닐.

누구나 한 번쯤 옥상달빛 음악에 신세 진 순간이 있다. 내 젊음이 초라하게 느껴질 때 손 내밀어주는 그들의 음악적 역할은 분명하다. “옥상달빛은 위로와 힐링의 아이콘이다.” 하지만 명제처럼 박힌 이 문장 속에 아티스트가 겪은 고뇌와 무게감도 존재했을 것이다.

옥상달빛은 과거 인터뷰에서 “음악을 쓰면서 점차 할 이야기가 줄어든다.”고 밝힌 적 있다. 할 수 있는 위로를 모두 모아 펼쳐냈기에 더 이상 어떤 메시지로 대중에게 다가가야 할지 모르겠다고. 긴 고민 끝에 옥상달빛은 연필을 뾰족하게 깎아 써 내린 세 번째 정규 앨범 [40]을 발표한다.

정규 앨범 [40]은 옥상달빛의 지극히 개인적이며 인간적인 희비가 담겨있다. 20대부터 함께 노래를 부른 김윤주와 박세진의 나이는 어느덧 마흔(40)이다. 쌓인 시간의 무게를 감히 한 문장으로 정의하기 어렵다. 이 시간을 보내며 세상을 바라보는 시야가 조금은 게을러졌고, 어느 정도는 담담해졌을 것이다. 또한 세월과 관계없이 여전히 그들을 무너져 내리게 하는 힘듦도 있다. 정규에 수록된 11개의 트랙은 옥상달빛의 이런 '성숙'과 '성장'에 관한 이야기를 진하게 달이고 졸여 탄생했다.

정규 앨범 [40]에 담긴 '성숙'과 '성장'의 의미는 커지고 발전한다는 개념보다 '흐름'의 의미에 가깝다. 이 묵직한 세월이 흐르며 옥상달빛이 아직도 지키고 있는, 또는 변화된 이야기는 무엇일까. 어쩌면 이 자기 고백적인 트랙들이 사람들에게 '옥상달빛다운 위로'로 다가갈 것이란 묘한 확신이 든다.

여전히 부족하고 어색한 부분이 있지만, 그만큼 또 새롭게 알게 된 것도 많이 생긴 나이 40살.

언젠가 가장 밑바닥에서 다시 힘껏 올라올 그날을 기대하면서.

어쩌면 지금 내가 가장 듣고 싶은 말.

보면 꽤 어른 같지만, 사실은 일도 사랑도 꿈도 흔들리기만 하는 날들의 연속. 서른.

나는 무엇을 감추고 무엇을 보이고 싶은지 여전히 잘 모르겠다.
