Oldie Butt Goody's first full-length album, which captures the love and admiration for the golden age of jazz through a contemporary perspective

[Oldie but Goodie]
The first full-length album [Oldie but Goodie] by the orthodox jazz duo Oldie but Goodie, which reinterprets the format of jazz standards from the 1930s and 1940s, consists of a total of 9 self-composed songs centered around the forgotten 'verse' structure.
The rhythm of early swing jazz, the song form derived from Broadway musicals, and the sensibility of the present era. This album, created by crossing these three elements, goes beyond a simple retro reproduction and presents a 'current jazz' where the past and present coexist.

This album features leading Korean jazz musicians. Bassist Choi Sung-hwan of Golden Swing Band, drummer Choi Bo-mi of Maria Kim Band, and saxophonist Lee Yong-seok, nominated for the 22nd Korean Popular Music Award, participated to add liveliness and depth to each song. Mixing and mastering was done by Chris Allen, the chief engineer of Sear Sound in New York, who won two Grammy Awards for Kurt Elling's [Secrets Are the Best Stories] in 2022 and Samara Joy's [Linger Awhile] in 2024, adding class and perfection to the sound of this album.

The title tracks "Good Ol'days", "Let us swim in the swing!", and "(This is) What love feels like" most clearly show the musical identity of Oldie But Goodie. Among them, "Good Ol'days" is a song with the message of "Let's go back to the days when we loved", and was first released as a single in 2023. In this regular version, drums and shout chorus were added to complete the sound with a richer sound. Classic pop culture figures such as Frank Sinatra, Mel Tormé, and Judy Garland appear, evoking nostalgia in the listener while summoning the emotions of the golden age of jazz. "Let us swim in the swing!" is a cheerful song based on swing dance, and various dance genres such as Lindy Hop, Charleston, Jitterbug, and Boogie Woogie appear in the lyrics. This goes beyond simply enjoying the rhythm of swing, and can be heard as a compliment to the entire "culture of dance" that jazz embraces. The free and lively flow of the song naturally moves the listener's body. "(This is) What love feels like" is a song that expresses the emotions of the moment of falling in love with various metaphorical expressions, representing the warmth of the album.

〈In the closet, I saw〉 is a story about reuniting with the pieces of memories that were quietly hidden in the closet. Like whispers from childhood, dusty boxes, and faded photographs and letters, this song stands out with its delicate sensibility that portrays memories as “treasures in time,” and depicts the moment when the past comes alive in the present. 〈Hug it out〉 is a swing number with a fast tempo and an affectionate message, like a cheerful proposal of reconciliation to a quarreled lover, and 〈Take me to the movies〉 is a song inspired by “The Wizard of Oz” starring Judy Garland, and contains the moment of growing dreams while watching a movie together. In addition, the composition that arranges the verses like an interlude creates a cinematic sensibility like a scene from a classic movie. 〈Just as though you were with me〉 is a harmonious blend of warm Boeing’s contrabass and vocals, and calmly expresses the longing for someone who has left as a poetic metaphor of remembering the sun and moon. 〈Jazzberry pie〉 is a lovely song that depicts the image of baking a pie with care for a loved one. The sweet imagination that compares love to food, as in the lyrics “I baked my love for you,” is impressive. The last track, 〈Three little words〉, is the only triple beat song on this album, and beautifully concludes the album by plainly conveying the essence of love through the simplest yet profound words, “I love you.”

[About Artists]
Oldie but Goodie is a duo consisting of jazz vocalist Jeong-hwa and jazz pianist Kang Han-seong who want to talk about the romantic era with the meaning of old but good things, people who remind you of the good old days. The concept is music from the golden age of jazz in the 1920s and 1940s, a time full of love and leisure, leaving behind the fast-changing and easily consumed modern society. Before entering the melody part (chorus), the verse with an unspecified 'Rubato' tempo between the vocal and piano is a characteristic of jazz music at that time, and this musical structure is difficult to hear in modern times, so it is often called 'Lost Verses'. Oldie but Goodie plays these verses together and presents music with old but still beautiful, classic melodies and lyrics.

※ Poor playback
1) If you use a turntable without a tonearm or weight adjustment function (mainly all-in-one models), you may experience a skipping phenomenon when playing tracks with large dynamic sound deviations. This is mostly caused by the light tonearm weight.
We do not accept returns or exchanges for playback defects caused by device issues, so we recommend playing the product on a device with adjustable tone arm.
2) Discs may not play smoothly due to static electricity and dust. This can usually be resolved by removing it with a special product.
3) If dust accumulates on the needle, playback may not be smooth.

1) The disc surface may become warped or warped. Returns or exchanges are only possible if there is a problem with playback.

재즈 황금기에 대한 애정과 찬사를 현재의 시선으로 담아낸 올디 벗 구디의 첫 정규 앨범

1930~40년대 재즈 스탠더드의 형식을 새롭게 재해석한 정통파 재즈 듀오 올디 벗 구디의 첫 정규앨범 [Oldie but Goodie]는 잊혀졌던 '벌스(verse)' 구조를 중심으로 한 총 9곡의 자작곡으로 구성되어 있다.
초창기 스윙 재즈의 리듬, 브로드웨이 뮤지컬에서 파생된 송폼, 그리고 현 시대의 감성. 이 세 가지를 교차시키며 만들어낸 이번 앨범은, 단순히 복고적인 재현을 넘어 과거와 현재가 나란히 공존하는 하나의 '지금의 재즈'를 제시한다.

이번 앨범에는 한국 재즈 신의 대표 뮤지션들이 함께했다. 골든스윙밴드의 베이시스트 최성환, 마리아킴 밴드의 드러머 최보미, 그리고 22년 한국대중음악상 노미네이트된 색소포니스트 이용석이 참여해 곡마다 생동감과 깊이를 더했다. 믹싱과 마스터링은 2022년 Kurt Elling의 [Secrets Are the Best Stories], 2024년 Samara Joy의 [Linger Awhile]로 두 차례 그래미를 수상한 뉴욕 Sear Sound의 수석 엔지니어인 Chris Allen이 참여하여 이번 앨범의 사운드에 품격과 완성도를 높였다.

타이틀 곡 〈Good Ol'days〉, 〈Let us swim in the swing !〉, 〈(This is) What love feels like〉는 올디 벗 구디의 음악적 정체성을 가장 선명하게 보여준다. 그 중 〈Good Ol'days〉는 “우리가 사랑했던 그 시절로 돌아가자”는 메시지를 품은 곡으로, 2023년 싱글로 먼저 발표되었고 이번 정규 버전에서는 드럼과 샤우트 코러스가 추가되어 더욱 풍성한 사운드로 완성되었다. 프랭크 시나트라, 멜 토메, 주디 갈랜드 등 고전 대중문화의 인물들이 등장하며, 청자에게 향수를 불러일으키는 동시에 재즈 황금기의 감성을 소환한다. 〈Let us swim in the swing!〉은 스윙 댄스를 모티브로 한 경쾌한 곡으로, 린디합, 찰스턴, 지터벅, 부기우기 등 다양한 댄스 장르명이 가사 속에 등장한다. 이는 단순히 스윙의 리듬을 즐기는 데서 나아가, 재즈가 품고 있던 '춤의 문화' 전체에 대한 찬사로 들린다. 자유롭고 활기찬 곡의 흐름은 듣는 이의 몸을 자연스럽게 움직이게 한다. 〈(This is) What love feels like〉는 사랑에 빠진 순간의 감정을 다양한 은유적인 표현들로 풀어낸 곡으로, 앨범이 지닌 따스한 온기를 대표한다.

〈In the closet, I saw〉는 옷장 속에 조용히 숨겨두었던 추억의 조각들을 다시 마주하는 이야기다. 어린 시절의 속삭임, 먼지가 내려앉은 상자, 바래진 사진과 편지들과 같이 이 곡은 기억을 '시간 속의 보물'로 그려낸 섬세한 감성이 돋보이며, 과거가 현재 속으로 살아나는 순간을 그린다. 〈Hug it out〉은 다툰 연인에게 건네는 유쾌한 화해의 제안처럼 빠른 템포 위에 애정어린 메시지를 얹은 스윙 넘버이며, 〈Take me to the movies〉는 주디 갈랜드 주연의 「오즈의 마법사」에서 영감을 받아 만든 곡으로, 함께 영화를 보며 꿈을 키워나가는 순간을 담았다. 또한 벌스를 인털루드처럼 배치한 구성을 통해, 고전 영화 속 한 장면 같은 시네마 감성을 자아낸다. 〈Just as though you were with me〉는 따뜻한 보잉의 콘트라베이스와 보컬이 조화롭게 어우러지며, 떠나간 사람을 태양과 달로 기억하는 시적 비유를 통해 여전히 곁에 있는 것 같은 그리움을 차분하게 풀어낸다. 〈Jazzberry pie〉는 사랑하는 사람을 위해 정성스럽게 파이를 굽는 모습을 그린 사랑스러운 곡으로 “당신을 향한 사랑을 구워냈다”라는 가사처럼, 사랑을 음식에 빗대어 표현한 달콤한 상상력이 인상적이다. 마지막 트랙 〈Three little words〉는 이번 앨범에서 유일한 3박자 곡으로, 가장 단순하면서도 깊이 있는 말 “I love you”라는 세 단어를 통해 사랑의 본질을 담백하게 들려주며 앨범을 아름답게 마무리한다.

Oldie but Goodie는 오래되었지만 좋은 물건, 그리운 옛날을 떠올리게하는 사람 이라는 의미로 낭만의 시대를 이야기하고픈 재즈보컬리스트 정화와 재즈피아니스트 강한성으로 이루어진 듀오이다. 빠르게 변하고 쉽게 소비되는 현대사회를 뒤로 한채 사랑과 여유가 가득했던 1920-40년대 재즈 황금기의 음악을 컨셉으로 하고있다. 멜로디파트(코러스)를 들어가기 전, 보컬과 피아노의 정해지지 않은 '루바토(Rubato)' 템포로 벌스를 노래하는 것이 그 당시 재즈음악의 특징이며 이 음악적 구조는 현대에는 듣기 어려워 잃어버린 벌스 'Lost Verses'라고 불리곤 한다. Oldie but Goodie는 이 벌스를 함께 연주하며 오래되었지만 여전히 아름다운, 고전적인 멜로디와 가사의 음악들을 들려준다.
