Description (Translated):

'The Two Seasons', inspired by the poem 'The Four Seasons Are Coming to the Other World (Kim Ji-so)', was composed based on the situation of our country and the Earth, which has only two seasons. Through this song, the problems of plastic and climate crisis, which are problems not only in our country but also around the world, were expressed through music.

It consists of a total of 4 songs, and was composed as a string quartet piece. It was composed with images of the current state of the Earth, its seriousness, and the mindset we should have.

1 song Disappearing Ice
The Arctic ice will disappear at least once before 2050. This is the content of the working report published by the governmental consultation on climate change in 2022. From 1979 to 2016, the Arctic sea ice area has decreased by 13% per decade, and once the ice starts melting, it continues to melt for hundreds of years. This song imagines the Earth where everything has stopped and is being destroyed.
2 songs green memory
The Amazon, called the lungs of the Earth. It produces 20% of the Earth's oxygen, but in the first half of 2022 alone, an area 6.6 times the size of Seoul was destroyed. It is threatened by arson for farmland expansion, illegal mining, and logging, and more than 2,500 forest fires occur in a single month. This song was composed with the hope and memories of the blue forest.
3 songs hot and cold
Above the North Pole, there is a layer of cold air with temperatures around -50 degrees Celsius. A jet stream circulates around it, preventing the cold air from escaping, and the jet stream maintains its speed as the temperature difference between the North Pole and the mid-latitudes increases, acting as a fence. However, as the Arctic temperature rises due to global warming and the jet stream that blocks the southward movement of cold air weakens, the Arctic cold wave flowing into the Korean Peninsula becomes stronger, and the phenomenon of heat waves and heat waves is becoming more intense. This song describes an ongoing situation where hot and cold are extremely intertwined.
4 songs again
The UN has given eight reasons why we should not give up hope: commercialization of electric vehicles, reduction in the cost of low-carbon emission technologies, expansion of climate crisis mitigation, possibility of shifting carbon emissions from the industrial sector, climate action in cities, adoption of carbon emissions and economic methods, active participation of citizens, and change in awareness of carbon dioxide. It is time to think about what we can do for the Earth even now. This song was composed with the aforementioned meaning in mind.


<Artist Introduction>
The first upcycled plastic quartet in Korea was founded. Plastic string instruments were made from discarded plastic waste. ‘Useless’ beings are reborn as ‘useful’ beings through music, delivering a new message about the climate crisis through music.

Description (Original):

'사계가 이계로 오고 있다 (김지소)' 시에서 영감을 받는 '이계(The Two seasons)'는 두 가지 계절밖에 없어진 우리나라와 지구의 상황을 모티브로 작곡하였다. 이 곡을 통해 우리나라와 더불어 전 세계에 문제점인 플라스틱과 기후위기의 문제점을 음악을 통해 표현하였다.

총 4곡으로 구성하였고 현악 사중주 곡으로 작곡하였으며 현재 지구의 모습, 심각성, 우리가 가져야 할 마음가짐에 대한 이미지를 입혀 작곡하였다.

1곡 사라지는 얼음
2050년 이전에 적어도 한 번은 북극 빙하가 사라진다. 기후변화에 관한 정부협의가 2022년 발표한 실무 보고서 중 내용이다. 1979년부터 2016년까지 북극해 얼음면적은 10년 단위로 13% 줄어들고 있으며 한 번 녹기 시작한 빙하는 수백년간 지속해서 녹는 것을 멈추지 않았다. 이 곡은 모든 것이 멈춰버리고 파멸되어가고 있는 지구의 모습을 상상하였다.
2곡 녹색의 기억
지구의 허파라고 불리는 아마존. 지구 산소의 20%를 생산하는 곳이지만 2022년 상반기에만 서울면적 6.6배의 면적이 파괴되었다. 농지확장의 방화, 불법광산, 벌목으로 위협받고 있으며 한 달에만 2500건이 넘는 산불이 발생하였다. 이 곡은 푸른 숲의 희망과 기억을 염원하는 마음으로 작곡하였다.
3곡 뜨거움과 차가움
북극 상공에는 영하 50도 안팎의 찬 공기층이 있다. 주변에는 냉기를 빠져 나기지 못하게 하는 제트기류가 회전하고 있고 제트기류는 북극과 중위도의 기온차가 클수록 제 속도를 유지하며 울타리 역할을 한다. 하지만 지구 온난화로 북극 기온이 상승하고 찬 공기의 남하를 막아주는 제트기류가 약해지면서 한반도로 유입되는 북극 한파가 더욱 강해짐에 따라 폭염과 폭서를 불러오는 현상이 강해지고 있다. 이 곡은 뜨거움과 차가움이 극단적으로 교차되는 진행되는 상황을 묘사하는 곡이다.
4곡 다시
UN은 희망을 포기하지 말아야 할 이유 8가지를 밝혔다. 전기자동차 상용화, 탄소저배출 기술비용 절감, 기후위기 완화 확장, 산업부문 탄소배출 전환가능성, 도시의 기후행동, 탄소배출과 경제적 방식 채택, 시민들의 적극적인 참여, 이산화탄소에 대한 인식변화를 말했다. 지금이라도 지구를 위해 무엇을 할 수 있을지 고민해야 하는 시점이다. 이 곡은 앞서 말한 의미를 생각하며 작곡하였다.


<아티스트 소개 >
국내최초 업사이클 플라스틱 콰르텟을 창단하였다. 플라스틱 현악기는 버려진 폐플라스틱으로 제작하였다. '쓸모' 없는 존재가 음악을 통해 '쓸모' 있는 존재로 재탄생하여 기후위기에 대한 새로운 메시지를 음악으로 전달하고 있다.
