'A real female rapper on this floor' Slick's first full-length album [COLOSSUS]

Since her provocative rap in February 2015 on her single "Energy / Python" that said, "There's only one proper female rapper in this industry," many listeners have had various expectations and prejudices about SLEEQ, converging with the keywords "proper," "female," and "rapper." After two years of preparation, SLEEQ has betrayed and simultaneously lived up to these expectations and prejudices with her first full-length album, "Colossus."

"One more name I gave myself, SLEEQ"
In this album, Slick imagines himself as a monster, 'Colossus', an unclassifiable being that deviates from the world's standards, and delicately describes the world's perspective on the monster and his own perspective on the world.
In an irrational era filled with hatred for the weak, from self-mockery about a scene where achievement is determined by profit and loss calculations, to the self-deprecation that comes every time you discover a superficial self, to embracing yourself as you are and pursuing a higher level of achievement, the speaker of this album shows what kind of existence 'Slick', who he has named himself, is by going from the bottom of the abyss to the top.

"I am the One and Only, more than anyone else"
Rather than putting together a 1,000-piece puzzle featuring a perfectly composed masterpiece, Slick created 'Colossus' by intricately connecting haphazard Lego blocks. With her signature tight skills and wordplay on top of beats with various moods created by several new producers, she maintains a tense consistency and shows off abilities that are not befitting of a debut album. Through this, she presents a unique self that stands outside the fence of prejudice without trying to satisfy the predictable forms of expectations that were placed on her.

The music video for "Liquor," the most dramatic track on the album, depicts the drunken confusion of Sleeq, a woman and a rapper, as she swings between the self the world wants her to be and the self she wants to be. The video stars actress Lee Joo-young, who previously appeared in the short film "Transfer Student" and Red Velvet's "Three Wishes" music video, and androgynous model Ember Kim. The video was directed by Madscene, who recently showed off his amazing sensibility with the "TRIBEAST" music video.
Also, the album's title track 'Stay With Me' features Shin Ji-soo, who previously worked with Slick on 'Hey Jude', on top of a beat by producer Imlay, who is more famous overseas than in Korea for future bass tunes such as 'Empress' and 'Bird'.

2015년 2월, 싱글 'Energy / Python'에서 "이 바닥에 제대로 된 여자 래퍼 딱 하나뿐"이란 도발적인 랩을 뱉은 이후, 많은 리스너들은 슬릭(SLEEQ)에게 '제대로 된' '여자' '래퍼'라는 키워드로 수렴하는 갖가지 기대와 편견을 던져왔다. 2년여의 준비 끝에, 슬릭은 첫 정규앨범 'Colossus'로 이 기대와 편견을 배반하며, 동시에 부응한다.

약자 혐오로 가득한 비이성적인 시대, 손익계산으로 성취가 판가름 나는 씬에 대한 자조에서부터, 겉도는 자아를 발견할 때마다 찾아오는 자기비하와, 이를 넘어서 있는 그대로의 자신을 포용하고 더 높은 차원의 성취를 추구하는 모습까지, 이 앨범의 화자는 스스로 이름 붙인 '슬릭'이 어떤 존재인지를 심연의 밑바닥에서부터 꼭대기까지 훑어가며 보여준다.

"난 One and Only, 누구보다 나다워"
완벽한 구도의 명화가 찍힌 1000피스짜리 퍼즐을 맞추기보다는 제멋대로인 레고 블록을 정교하게 이어 붙이는 방식으로 'Colossus'를 만들어낸 슬릭은, 여러 신예 프로듀서들이 주조한 다양한 무드의 비트 위에 특유의 타이트한 스킬과 언어유희로 텐션 넘치는 일관성을 유지하며 데뷔 앨범에는 걸맞지 않은 역량을 보여준다. 이를 통해 그녀는 자신에게 걸려있던 뻔한 형태의 기대를 만족시키려 애쓰지 않고, 편견의 울타리 바깥에 선 유일무이한 자아를 제시한다.

앨범 내에서 가장 극적인 지점에 위치한 트랙 'Liquor'의 뮤직비디오는, 여성이자 래퍼인 슬릭에게 세상이 원하는 자아와 자신이 원하는 자아 사이를 술에 취한 채 오가는 혼란을 그렸다. 단편영화 '전학생', 레드벨벳 '세가지 소원' 뮤직비디오 등에 출연했던 배우 이주영과, 중성적인 매력의 모델 Ember Kim이 출연했으며, 최근 'TRIBEAST'의 뮤직비디오로 놀라운 감각을 보여줬던 Madscene이 연출했다.
또한, 앨범의 타이틀곡인 'Stay With Me'에는 'Empress', 'Bird' 등의 퓨쳐베이스 튠으로 국내보다 해외에서 더욱 유명한 프로듀서 임레이(Imlay)의 비트 위에, 'Hey Jude'로 슬릭과 호흡을 맞춘 바 있는 신지수가 피쳐링으로 참여했다.
