If you are a creative person, you will have various thoughts and greed. Even if it is different from what people expect of themselves, once in a while there is a desire to unravel an idea that comes to mind or a coveted new attempt. However, not all creators can satisfy that aspiration. Sometimes, in order to meet expectations, or because of various complicated circumstances, we give up that part. However, Seonwoo Jung-ah prepares a new space in the laboratory called Studio X to unravel the various things she had in a different way. So this album, to be precise, this space was born.

However, it does not mean that an unprecedented unprecedented breakthrough is created in the space. It doesn't mean bad. A musician named Seonwoo Jung-a has a clear identity as a laboratory in that she unravels various aspects and musical elements she has shown in the past in a different way and in a different form. However, it is 'rather good', so it may touch someone's taste more strongly. Sunwoo Jung-ah has been active as a jazz vocalist, and has also performed soulful music and lively and rhythmic pop music. So, while “living together” and “let’s run away” are Sunwoo Junga’s songs, “Workaholic” and “Spring Maiden” are also Sunwoo Junga’s songs. They present songs with a delicate touch and high density, but sometimes with challenging arrangements, and sometimes with bursts of energy. And that kind of jinmyeonmo is in the performance. In that sense, this album might be the work that most closely resembles Sunwoo Jung-ah in the performance.

From the beginning of the first song, “black coffee,” the album delivers a pleasant confusion to some and a new freshness to others. Woo Won-jae's rap is an element of the song that maximizes the atmosphere, while the unpredictable build-up and transition of the track sound feel similar to our day and life when we need coffee. On the other hand, in “OCTAVE”, similar but different textures of Sunwoo Jung-a and Su-min appear, and if you listen to the wonderful self-show, you will naturally pay homage to the strange energy and the power to agree, rather than nodding your head. It is even better if you listen to the third song to the last song connected as if it were one song. In particular, “ㅅㅣㄹRS (nononono)” and “gum (gum)” naturally lead to one flow, but “ㅅㅣㄹRS” conveys an expression of dissatisfaction that can leave a negative impression through sound rather than lyrics. On the other hand, it conveys the feeling of today's jazz and rawness while having explosive energy with jazz players. “Gum” delivers different moments of Sunwoo Jung-ah throughout the song, while delivering a strange catharsis along with the pleasure of listening to it through its unique sound-making. The last song, “ANY-motion”, which was used in advertisements for telecommunications companies in the past, was recorded in 2015 as it is, and if you compare it with the original song, you will be able to meet a bigger shock.

The fact that there are many stories I want to tell even though it is not an album I produced, and the fact that I really want to recommend it strongly is that the album is a work that has two important elements that are meaningful and fun, regardless of standards or standards such as completeness and originality. That is. It's useless if you don't listen to it even if you use it for a long time. Let's listen. If 10 people listen, there will probably be 10 feedbacks, and I think there will be 10 reactions. “재즈와 소울로 만든 귀여운 돌연변이”, 새로운 실험실로 초대합니다 ? Studio X {1. Phase}

창작을 하는 사람이라면 여러 가지 생각과 욕심이 들기 마련이다. 비록 그것이 사람들이 자신에게 거는 기대와 다를지라도 한 번쯤 번뜩 떠오르는 아이디어, 혹은 탐나는 새로운 시도에 관해서는 풀어보고 싶은 욕심이 생기기 마련이다. 하지만 모든 창작자가 그 열망을 해소하지는 못한다. 때로는 기대를 충족시키기 위해, 혹은 여러 복잡한 사정 때문에 그런 부분을 포기하기도 한다. 그러나 선우정아는 Studio X 라는 실험실을, 하나의 새로운 공간을 마련하여 자신이 지니고 있던 여러 가지를 또 다른 모습으로 풀어낸다. 그래서 이 앨범이, 정확하게는 이 공간이 탄생하게 되었다.

그렇다고 공간 안에서 전례 없는 엄청난 파격이 탄생하는 건 아니다. 나쁜 의미가 아니다. 선우정아라는 음악가는 그간 자신이 선보였던 여러 모습과 음악적 요소를 지금까지와는 다른 방법으로, 다른 형태로 풀어낸다는 점에서 실험실이라는 정체성은 분명하다. 하지만 그것이 '오히려 좋아', 그러니까 누군가의 취향에는 더욱 진하게 닿을 수도 있다. 선우정아는 지금까지 재즈 보컬로도 활동했고, 소울풀한 음악도 선보였고 발랄하고 리드미컬한 팝 음악도 선보였다. 그러니까 “동거”도, “도망가자”도 선우정아의 노래지만 “Workaholic”도, “봄처녀”도 선우정아의 노래다. 섬세한 터치의, 밀도 높은 곡을 선보이기도 하지만 때로는 도전적인 편곡으로, 때로는 에너지를 터트리는 곡도 풀어낸다. 그리고 그런 진면모는 공연에 있다. 그런 의미에서 어쩌면 이 앨범은 공연에서의 선우정아를 가장 닮은 작품일수도 있을 것 같다.

앨범은 첫 곡인 “black coffee”의 도입부부터가 누군가에게는 기분 좋은 혼란스러움을, 누군가에게는 새로운 신선함을 전달한다. 우원재의 랩은 곡의 한 요소로 그 분위기를 극대화시키는가 하면 예측 불허한 빌드업과 트랙 사운드의 전환은 커피가 필요한 우리의 하루와도, 인생과도 비슷하게 느껴진다. 그런가 하면 “OCTAVE”에서는 선우정아와 수민의 비슷한 듯 다른 결이 등장하는데, 멋진 자기과시를 듣고 있으면 고개를 끄덕거리는 것이 아니라 묘한 에너지와 수긍하게 되는 힘에 절로 경의를 표하게 될 것이다. 이어지는 세 번째 곡부터 마지막 곡까지는 하나의 곡처럼 연결해서 들으면 더욱 좋다. 특히 “ㅅㅣㄹㅓ(nononono)”와 “껌 (gum)”은 자연스럽게 하나의 흐름으로 이어지는데, “ㅅㅣㄹㅓ”는 자칫 부정적인 느낌으로 남을 수 있는 싫다는 의사 표현을 가사가 아닌 소리로 전달하는가 하면 재즈 연주자들과 함께 폭발적인 에너지를 지니면서도 요즘의 재즈, 날것의 느낌을 함께 전달한다. “껌 (gum)”은 곡 곳곳에서 선우정아의 다른 순간을 만날 수 있는가 하면, 독특한 사운드 메이킹으로 듣는 즐거움과 함께 묘한 카타르시스를 전달한다. 마지막 곡이자 과거 통신사 광고에 쓰였던 “ANY-motion”은 2015년에 녹음한 버전이 그대로 수록되었는데, 원곡과 비교해보면 더 큰 충격을 만날 수 있을 것이다.

내가 제작한 앨범이 아님에도 하고 싶은 이야기가 많다는 것, 그리고 정말 그만큼 강하게 추천하고 싶다는 건 그만큼 앨범이 완성도, 독창성과 같은 기준이나 잣대를 떠나 의미도 있고 재미도 있는, 두 가지 중요한 요소를 꼭 잡은 작품이라는 것이다. 길게 써봐야 안 들으면 소용이 없다. 꼭 들어보자. 아마 10명이 들으면 10개의 피드백이 생길 것이고, 열 가지 반응이 있을 것이라 생각한다. 기왕이면 그런 의견을 서로 나누고, 이 실험실에서 생긴 결과에 동참해보는 것도 좋지 않을까 싶다. 여러분에게 이 실험실의 '첫 번째' 결과는 어떤 느낌인지 궁금하다.
