Description (Translated):

Indie band Tearliner, which debuted in 2004, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and is releasing its third full-length album [MUSICOMANIA], which it has been preparing for a long time. This is the final destination of songs that he worked on in his spare time while working as a music director, and it is his first full-length album in 11 years since [Grey Garden]. Although it was not intentional, the songs he made over the past 20 years from 2003 to 2023 are appropriately mixed together, telling different stories depending on the era, season, and emotion. This album contains the entire 20-year life drama of Tearliner.

The album title 'MUSICOMANIA' refers to a music maniac who is obsessed with music, and refers to Tearliner himself. Rockid, who had been engrossed in music all day long since he was young, started imitating musicians by DIY (Do it Yourself) by holding drumsticks, carrying a guitar, pressing the keys, and singing into the microphone, and before he knew it, he was living the life of a musician. This album expresses the coincidence and inevitability of alpha and omega as a melody. Through music, he wants to add emotion to the small moments of life and convey comfort and joy. Unlike the colorful expressions of these emotions through music directors so far, this album has deeper and more intense colors.

The album cover is based on the concept of the cassette tape that Tearliner listened to until it was stretched out. The illustrations on the album cover and booklet were drawn by German artist Stephan White Kresse, who became friends with each other through their mutual admiration for each other's work.

Each individual is an island in isolation, but at the same time, they are connected as one through the sea. I hope that the melody and sound waves of the album [MUSICOMANIA] are delivered to them through the waves and reach the shores of their respective islands. I hope that they crash into the rocks and sand of the island and create white spray.


[MUSICOMANIA] Introduction by song

01. Lovesick (feat. Seonjin)
This song was recorded over 20 years ago as a demo (in 2003). It is about a lover who has broken up with someone in his dreams and whispers to never break up again. Lovesickness is ironically cured by love, although the scars of regret and longing remain. The song is simply divided into the first half with lyrical vocals and the second half led by guitar and piano, heightening the emotions. 'Seonjin', who received much love for his participation as a vocalist in the OST 'Blooming Story' of the NETFLIX drama [Love Alarm], for which he was the music director, breathed life into the song again.

02. HEARTSTRINGS
This is a typical Tearliner-style song that heavily uses string instruments while not pushing the vocals or rock instruments forward or backward, producing equal sounds. The strings and piano flow dreamily with the sorrowful vocals, touching the listener's heartstrings. It was completed with the efforts of 9 performers, a lyricist, and recording staff, gradually adding flesh to the song over a period of 12 years since the initial composition of the framework. 03. Moon Rises, Love Falls
Like a hot summer, I loved, but after time passes and the love cools, I express my feelings with a sad melody and plaintive vocals. The title of the song, 'Moon Rises, Love Falls,' dramatically metaphorizes these feelings. The sweet guitar sound that envelops the entire atmosphere of the song was played by Kang Ji-hoon, a tear guitarist who is a member of the Tearliner session and acoustic duo 'low-end project.' Thanks to this, a faint emotion flows on top of the small sound foundation, enhancing the emotion of the melody.

04. My Aporia
The intense and low-fi guitar playing, the delicate and timid vocals, and the cheerful dance-style drums with clapping that seem to not go together come together in a heterogeneous way, presenting a unique charm like the romance of Avengers who went to the Joseon Dynasty via a time machine. 'Aporia' means a dead end in Greek, and in philosophical terms it means 'a difficult problem, an unsolvable conundrum'. Through this song, the song sings about a personal problem, which for some may be a complicated reality, an unsolved problem, a frustrating pandemic situation at the time of work, love with a lover, or a relationship with a boss at work. The guitar playing and arrangement of the unreleased demo song recorded in 2006 were used as is, and the lyrics were added 14 years later. 05. Love You, Stranger (Feat. Love
The feeling of being embarrassed but not hating the sudden love starts with an attractive guitar tone of samba rhythm and flows along with a cheerful and soft melody. Love X Stereo's vocalist Annie participated in writing the lyrics and chorus, making the song lovely and rich. Different from the existing Tearliner style that contained growing pains or regrets and memories after a breakup, it expresses a variety of colors with brightness, excitement, and the beginning of love. 06. Because Haven't Lived
This song is attractive for its straightforward and crisp simple rock composition and its nonchalant and crude vocals. It sings about being old but still young, still having a chance, not being able to die yet because I have never lived the way I want to, and living freely from now on as I wish. In order to express the will to live a free life, I intended to use a low-fi sound in the garage rock genre. The music video, which was produced by Tearliner himself, conceived the story, produced, edited, and directed, and was handcrafted, starred actor Lee Min-ki, who matched the rocker image of the song, as the vocalist, adding strength to the difficult promotion of an indie musician without an agency. 07. How We Lost in Melody (feat. From)
It contains the story of lovers who love each other but have different thoughts, sometimes embracing and understanding each other, sometimes pushing away and conflicting, and wandering lost in the melody. Singer-songwriter Fromm, with a plain sound and appealing low-mid voice, participated as a featured artist, breathing sorrowful and beautiful life into the song. At the same time, a different arrangement of the male vocal version was included (Track 12, 'How We Lost in Melody') to express various emotions in the same melody.

08. HEARTSTRINGS [Dramatic Ver.]
This is 'Dramatic Version', rearranged and reinterpreted with his own sensibility by fellow musician Sentimental Scenery, who loves track 02 'HEARTSTRINGS' with the same melody. You can enjoy a different atmosphere with the same melody through different genres, tempos, compositions, and dramatic developments.

09. You Are So Me (feat. Taebeen)
The song sings about trying to heal the wounds from a lover, but in the end, he also hurt and pushed the other person away, and by doing so, he realizes that he is not much different in the end, and that the cause of the relationship is not one side. You can enjoy the charm of the soft and appealing vocals of Taebin, a former idol group member and vocalist who appeared on JTBC's popular show 'Peak Time' and showed off his singing skills. "It feels like I'm alone in a dark room, or like I'm swimming in the middle of space, or like I'm walking through a foggy, dark, gray forest. Many different pictures are drawn." Taebin, who perfectly digested the structure of the rise of emotions from the low notes of the introduction to the high falsetto of the final climax, shared these thoughts after listening to the completed song.

10. Love You, Stranger (Soft Ver.) (Feat. Love
With a contemporary jazz-inspired arrangement, vocalist Annie from fellow musician Love X Stereo took on the role of main vocalist, lively and free-spirited jazz, enhancing the song's flavor.

11. Purple Jacket [Another Rush]
With a deep and strong guitar performance, you will be completely absorbed in the peak guitar performance of 'Low-end Project' tearful guitarist Kang Ji-hoon. This is a sound source that was composed and worked on in 2003, and Kang Ji-hoon's lead guitar performance was added in 2007, and it is a return to Tearliner's fundamental originality.

12. How We Lost in Melody
Unlike the arranged version featuring 'From' (Track 07), this one evokes another emotion with its typical Tearliner style consisting of lyrical electric guitar sounds that fill the space, strings, and piano. Let's feel the charm of dream pop that fills the space with a cool but at the same time infinite warmth, as if walking through a snowy landscape with delicate and emotional vocals and dreamy sounds.

B1. ZERO MOMENT
'I really don't wanna do anything, no more. / Don't miss me. I don't belong here, no more. / Do you still want me to do what I hate?' The moment of zero comes like a state of weightlessness. The strong guitar riff, heavy drums, and driving bass sound are in harmony with the deep voice that blends together. The infectious chorus melody is impressive. The original OST song sung by Heeseung, Jay, and Jake of the popular idol group ENHYPEN from the ENA drama [I Don't Wanna Do Anything], which gained popularity as a healing drama and starred Seolhyun and Im Si-wan, was included as a bonus track.

B2. Love Bites
This song is a collection of feelings felt while traveling through Vienna, the splendid capital of Austria. It has no lyrics and the dry and cool humming vocals are wrapped by flowing strings, and the rock-style performance lays the foundation to express the cold early winter. It has the character of a series with the flow of emotions that connects to 'Embrace All' included in the second regular album [Gray Garden].

2004년 데뷔한 인디밴드 티어라이너가 올해로 20년을 맞이해 오랜 시간 동안 준비한 세 번째 정규앨범 [MUSICOMANIA]를 발표합니다. 음악감독으로 활동하며 틈틈이 작업했던 곡들의 종착지이자 [잿빛 정원Grey Garden]으로부터 무려 11년 만의 정규앨범입니다. 의도하지 않았지만, 2003년부터 2023년까지 20년 동안 만든 곡들이 적절히 섞여 시대에 따라, 계절에 따라, 감정에 따라 서로 다른 이야기가 담겨 있습니다. 이 앨범은 티어라이너의 20년 삶의 드라마가 오롯이 들어있는 셈입니다.

앨범명 'MUSICOMANIA'는 음악에 광적으로 집착하는 음악 마니아를 의미하며, 곧 티어라이너 본인을 지칭합니다. 어릴 적부터 온종일 음악에 심취해 살던 록키드가 DIY(Do it Yourself)로 직접 드럼 스틱을 들고, 기타를 메고, 건반을 누르고, 마이크에 노래하면서 뮤지션을 흉내 내더니 어느새 뮤지션의 삶을 살게 된 우연과 필연을, 알파와 오메가를 멜로디로 표현해 앨범에 담았습니다. 음악을 통해 삶의 소소한 순간에 감동을 더하고, 위로와 기쁨을 전달하고자 합니다. 이러한 감정의 희노애락은 그간 음악감독을 통해 다채롭게 표현해 왔던 그것과는 달리 이 앨범에서는 보다 짙고 진한 색채를 띠고 있습니다.

앨범 커버는 늘어지도록 들었던 티어라이너의 현재를 있게 한 카세트테이프를 콘셉트로 삼았습니다. 앨범 커버와 부클릿의 그림은 서로의 창작물을 좋아하며 친해진 독일 화가 '스테판 화이트Stephan White Kresse'가 그렸습니다.

개개인은 외따로 존재하는 섬이기도 하지만, 동시에 바다를 통해 하나로 연결되어 있습니다. 그들에게 앨범 [MUSICOMANIA]의 멜로디와 음파가 파도를 통해 전달되어 각자 섬의 해변에 닿기를. 섬의 바위와 모래 곳곳에 부딪혀 하얀 물보라가 일기를 바랍니다.

01. Lovesick (feat. 선진)
데모 녹음한 지 20년이 넘은(2003년) 곡입니다. 헤어진 연인을 꿈 속에서 재회하자 다시는 헤어지지 말자 속삭입니다. 상사병lovesick은 아이러니하게도 사랑으로 치유됩니다, 비록 후회나 그리움이라는 생채기는 남겠지만. 곡은 서정적인 보컬의 전반부와 기타와 피아노 연주가 주도하는 후반부로 단순하게 나뉘며 감정을 상승시킵니다. 음악감독을 맡았던 NETFLIX드라마 [좋아하면 울리는Love Alarm] OST 'Blooming Story'의 보컬 피처링으로 참여해 많은 사랑을 받았던 '선진'이 다시 곡에 숨을 불어넣어 주었습니다.

02. HEARTSTRINGS

뜨거웠던 여름처럼 사랑했지만, 시간이 지나 사랑이 식은 후의 감상을 처연한 멜로디와 담담한 보컬로 표현합니다. '달이 뜨고, 사랑이 진다Moon Rises, Love Falls.'는 곡명은 이러한 감정을 극적으로 은유 합니다. 곡의 분위기 전반을 휘감는 감미로운 기타 사운드는 티어라이너 세션 멤버이자 어쿠스틱 듀오 '로우엔드 프로젝트low-end project' 멤버인 눈물기타 강지훈이 연주했습니다. 덕분에 소소한 사운드 기반 위에 아련한 정서가 흘러 멜로디의 감정을 북돋웁니다.

04. My Aporia

서로 사랑하지만 생각의 결이 다른 연인이 때로 보듬고 이해하고, 때로 밀어내고 갈등하며 멜로디 안에서 길을 잃고 방황하는 모습을 담았습니다. 담백한 사운드와 호소력 짙은 중저음의 싱어송라이터 프롬Fromm이 피처링으로 참여해 곡에 처연하고 아름다운 생명력을 불어넣었습니다. 동시에 남성 보컬 버전의 다른 편곡을 함께 실어(12번 트랙 'How We Lost in Melody')같은 멜로디에 다양한 감정을 표현했습니다.

연인으로부터 받은 상처를 치유하려 애쓰지만, 결국 자신도 상대에게 상처 주고 밀어냈음을, 그럼으로써 결국 자신도 별반 다르지 않음을, 관계의 원인은 어느 한쪽이 아님을 노래합니다. 아이돌 그룹 출신이자 인기리에 방송되었던 JTBC'피크타임'에 출연해 가창 실력을 선보인 보컬 태빈Taebeen의 부드럽고 호소력 짙은 보컬의 매력을 만끽할 수 있습니다. 컨템퍼러리 재즈 느낌의 편곡으로 동료 뮤지션 '러브엑스테레오' 보컬 애니가 직접 메인 보컬로 통통 튀면서도 자유로운 재즈의 느낌을 제대로 소화하며 곡의 맛을 돋워 주었습니다.

11. Purple Jacket [Another Rush]
짙고 강한 기타 연주곡으로 '로우엔드 프로젝트'눈물기타 강지훈의 절정의 기타 연주에 흠뻑 빠지게 됩니다. 2003년에 작곡해 작업한 음원에 2007년 강지훈의 리드기타 연주를 덧붙인 음원 그대로 발표되어 티어라이너의 근원적 오리지널리티로의 회귀를 알 수 있습니다.

'프롬'이 피처링한 편곡 버전(07번 트랙)과 달리 공간을 채우는 서정적인 일렉 기타 사운드와 현악, 피아노로 구성된 전형적인 티어라이너 스타일로 또 다른 감성을 불러일으킵니다. 섬세하고 감성적인 보컬과 몽몽한 사운드에 담긴 설경을 거닐듯 서늘하지만, 동시에 한없이 따뜻하게 공간을 채우는 드림팝의 매력을 느껴봅시다.

'더 이상 아무것도 하고 싶지 않아I really don't wanna do anything, no more. /날 그리워하지 마. 여기는 내가 있을 곳이 아니야Don't miss me. I don't belong here, no more. /여전히 내가 하기 싫은 걸 하길 원하니Do you still want me to do what I hate?' 무중력의 상태처럼 0의 순간은 찾아옵니다. 강렬한 기타 리프와 묵직한 드럼, 드라이브 베이스 사운드 위에 짙은 보이스가 조화를 이루며 어우러집니다. 전염성 강한 후렴구 멜로디가 인상적입니다. 힐링 드라마로 인기를 얻었던 설현, 임시완 주연의 ENA 드라마[아무것도 하고 싶지 않아]에서 인기 아이돌그룹 엔하이픈ENHYPEN의 희승, 제이, 제이크가 불렀던 OST 원곡을 보너스트랙으로 실었습니다.

오스트리아의 찬란했던 수도 빈Wien을 여행하며 느낀 감상을 녹여낸 곡으로 노랫말(가사)없이 건조하고 서늘한 허밍보컬을 유려한 현악이 감싸고, 록 구성의 연주로 기반을 다져 시린 초겨울을 표현했습니다. 정규 2집 앨범 [잿빛 정원]에 수록되었던 'Embrace All'과 연결되는 감정의 흐름으로 연작의 성격을 띱니다.
