Selected as the winner of the 2020 Studio Dragon Script Contest, "My Dear Thief" took years of preparation, from writing to production, and established itself as a top hit in early 2026. Writer Lee Seon meticulously and elegantly weaves complex messages about social order, power structures, class oppression, and female agency within a romance-centered story, creating a world so vast and robust that its 16 episodes simply cannot be adequately conceived. Unlike the existing "soul change" genre, which often revolves around gender-bending comedies, "My Dear Thief" subverts class and power structures to create a unique world of its own. Eun-jo and Yi-yeol's journey of growth, as they each see Joseon through their own perspectives, ultimately reinterprets the classic proposition that "love is about understanding others" in a modern way.

The story begins with the revelation that the righteous thief known as "Gildong," who raids the granaries of corrupt officials, is actually a woman. Hong Eunjo, a female physician at Hyeminseo by day and a thief who wields a sword for the common people by night, is the daughter of a nobleman father and a commoner mother. Born to a nobleman father and a commoner mother, she overcomes countless hardships and lives a life dedicated to the people in her own way. Her theft stems not from anger toward the world, but from compassion for those who suffer. And the one who pursues this courageous woman is Lee Yeol, the king's younger brother and second-in-command in Joseon, Prince Dowol. Despite his brilliant mind, he has long hidden his weapon, determined to uphold a long-ago oath to King Lee Gyu. While chasing a thief, he encounters Hong Eunjo and, unaware that she is Gildong, falls in love.
