Sanulim 50th Anniversary Project
The first album filled with fresh allure

[Sanulim 50th Anniversary Studio Album Vol. 1 – Various Artists]

The 'Sanulim 50th Anniversary Project,' launched in September 2023, is scheduled to continue its journey until 2027, marking the half-century mark of Sanulim. Here, the first leg of that voyage has been released as a record of 10 songs. The time span of the original songs alone spans a remarkable 42 years, from "What Should I Do," the Grand Prize winner of the 1st University Song Festival in 1977, to "Hand," a track from Kim Chang-hoon's 5th album [Five Senses] in 2019. Kim Chang-hoon, the captain of the ship—Sanulim bassist and solo singer-songwriter—personally selected the remake artists, matched the tracks, and even chose the cover artist to complete each song in this project.
The reinterpreted auditory landscapes are extremely interesting. Some strip away the narrative of the original song and re-edit it into ecstatic modern rock (Owol-oil 'Hand'), while others, conversely, ruthlessly transform the original's vivacity into melancholy and plant it in a new flowerpot (Adios Audio 'Flowerpot'). Others amplify the original emotion and atmosphere while preserving them intact. Galaxy Express amplifies the pessimistic roar of 'I Don't Know Why I'm Here,' and Crackshot's masterful brushstrokes pour a desperate tragic beauty into the madness of 'Munyedo,' even overlaying the original's boldness with thick lines.
Updated reinterpretations are also worth seeing. Look at Rolling Quartz, who topped the contemplative ballad 'Reminiscence' with dramatic rock, and Solutions, who colored the sorrow of 'More Than Me Now' like a rainy day in Devon, England. The melancholic rock ballad 'Past Story' acquired another Korean color through the ink wash style of the Yudabin Band, and the synth-pop of 'It's Okay to Get Wet' ripples with a different tension as it meets the thick, funky rhythms of Huckleberry Finn.
There is also a rebellion. Kim Chang-hoon’s discernment is subversive in itself, as he ‘dared’ to entrust the classic ‘What Should I Do,’ which first proclaimed the existence of Sanulim and Kim Chang-hoon nearly 50 years ago, to rapper D-Hack. ‘BBB,’ a ballad depicting the helplessness following a breakup, meets Samui and dons its raincoat with a 21st-century slacker sensibility. 1) Please note that minor jacket wrinkles, corner dents, cracks, etc., other than obvious playback defects, are not eligible for return or exchange.
2) The inner slab may crack due to contact with the disc, but this is not eligible for return or exchange.
3) The disc label may not be attached smoothly due to the manufacturing process.
4) Damage to the outer packaging film that is not defective to the product itself is not eligible for exchange or return.

※ Playback failure
1) If you are using a turntable without a tonearm or weight adjustment function (mainly all-in-one models), skipping may occur when playing tracks with large variations in dynamic sound, which is mostly caused by the light weight of the tonearm.
Returns or exchanges are not available for playback issues caused by device problems, so we recommend playing the recording on a device with adjustable tonearms.
2) Discs may not play smoothly due to static electricity and dust. This can usually be resolved by removing them with a dedicated product.
3) Playback may not be smooth if dust accumulates on the needle.

※ Disk abnormality
1) The disc surface may be uneven or warped. Returns or exchanges are only accepted if there is a playback issue.
2) In some cases, the center hole diameter of the disc is manufactured to be small to minimize distortion of the playback range and maintain maximum consistency even during repeated playback. If it does not fit the turntable spindle, the issue can be resolved by adjusting the center hole using a dedicated product.
3) Occasionally, there may be minor scratches on the disc or the finish may not be clean. Returns or exchanges are only accepted if there is a playback issue.

※ Color disc
1) The actual color of the color disc may differ from the web image.
2) Due to the nature of color discs, there may be color differences between albums during the production process.
3) Color discs may contain small dots or other color dyes that occurred during the manufacturing process.

산울림 50주년 기념 프로젝트
신선한 매혹으로 가득한 첫 번째 앨범

[산울림 50주년 기념 정규 앨범 Vol. 1 – Various Artists]

2023년 9월 출범한 '산울림 50주년 기념 프로젝트'는 산울림의 반세기에 가닿는 2027년까지 항해를 계속할 예정이다. 여기, 그 첫 항해가 10곡의 기록으로 나왔다. 1977년 제1회 대학가요제 대상곡 '나 어떡해'부터 2019년 김창훈 5집 [오감] 수록곡 '손'까지 원곡들의 시대적 너비만 해도 무려 42년이다. 배의 선장인 산울림 베이시스트이자 솔로 싱어송라이터 김창훈은 리메이크 아티스트를 직접 선정하고 직접 곡을 매치하며 직접 표지 그림 아티스트까지 골라 한 곡 한 곡의 프로젝트를 완성시켰다.
재해석된 청각 풍경은 몹시 흥미롭다. 원곡의 서사를 거두절미하고 환희의 모던 록으로 재편집하는가 하면(오월오일 '손'), 반대로 원작의 발랄함을 무참히 멜랑콜리로 바꿔 새 화분에 꽂아 낸다(아디오스오디오 '화초'). 감성과 분위기를 그대로 살려 증폭하기도 한다. '내가 왜 여기 있는지 몰라'의 염세적 포효를 확성한 갤럭시 익스프레스, '무녀도'의 광기에 처절한 비장미를 부어 넣은 크랙샷의 일필휘지는 원작의 대담함마저 굵은 선으로 덧칠해 버린다.
업데이트형 재해석도 볼만하다. 관조적 발라드 '회상'에 드라마틱한 록을 토핑해 낸 롤링 쿼츠, '지금 나보다'의 비감을 영국 데번의 비 오는 날처럼 채색한 솔루션스를 보라. 애조 띤 록 발라드 '지난 이야기'는 유다빈밴드의 수묵담채로 또 다른 한국적 색채를 획득했고, '옷젖는건 괜찮아'의 신스팝은 허클베리핀의 두툼하고 펑키한 리듬을 만나 다른 장력으로 출렁인다.
반란도 있다. 산울림과 김창훈의 존재를 근 50년 전 처음 천명했던 고전, '나 어떡해'를 '감히' 래퍼 디핵에게 내맡긴 김창훈의 감식안부터가 전복적이다. 이별 뒤의 무기력을 그린 발라드 '비비비'는 사뮈를 만나 21세기식 슬래커(slacker) 감성으로 그 비옷을 갈아입는다. (임희윤, 음악평론가)

※ 재생 불량
1) 톤암 혹은 무게 조절 기능이 없는 턴테이블을 사용하시는 경우, (주로 올인원 형태 모델) 다이내믹 사운드의 편차가 큰 트랙을 재생할 때 튀는 현상이 발생할 수 있는데 이는 대부분 가벼운 톤암 무게가 원인입니다.
기기 문제로 인해 발생하는 재생 불량 현상에 대해서는 반품/교환이 불가하니 톤암 조절이 가능한 기기에서 재생하실 것을 권유 드립니다.
2) 디스크는 정전기와 먼지로 인해 재생이 원활하지 않은 경우가 있습니다. 전용 제품으로 이를 제거하면 대부분 해결됩니다.
3) 바늘에 먼지가 쌓이는 경우에도 재생이 원활하지 않을 수 있습니다.

※ 디스크 이상
1) 디스크 표면이 울렁거리거나 휘어지는 경우가 있습니다. 재생에 이상이 있는 경우에만 반품이나 교환이 가능합니다.
2) 재생 음역의 왜곡을 최소화하고 반복 재생 시에도 최대한 일관되게 유지되도록 디스크 센터 홀 구경이 작게 제작되는 경우가 있습니다. 턴테이블 스핀들에 맞지 않는 경우에는 전용 제품 등을 이용하여 센터 홀을 조정하시면 해결됩니다.
3) 간혹 디스크에 미세한 잔흠집이 남아있거나 마감이 깨끗하지 않은 경우가 있습니다. 재생에 이상이 있는 경우에만 반품이나 교환이 가능합니다.
