My friend found a studio famous for its acoustic sound, and
We finished the recording in 3 hours.
That summer with Lee Byung-woo
Looking back, it is a precious memory.

After returning home and looking into distribution here and there, the song is good, but
Will that work? Where? They say they really ignore me.

It becomes known only through word of mouth after the announcement
It took 6 years, though.

Yang Hee-eun's 20th Anniversary Debut Album [Yang Hee-eun 1991]

Yang Hee-eun has established herself as a symbol of Korean popular music since her debut with 'Morning Dew' in 1971.
That voice, which did not fade from people's hearts even after becoming a banned song under the military regime, was a language of resistance and a testimony of the times.
However, she did not remain confined to a single image. In the year marking her 20th debut anniversary, facing the age of forty, she returned with a completely different voice.

[Yang Hee-eun 1991] was born from a meeting with guitarist Lee Byung-woo, who was studying in Austria at the time. Although they were of different generations and lived in different places, their musical chemistry was a perfect match.
Lee Byung-woo's acoustic guitar and Yang Hee-eun's voice—that is all there is to this album. There are no flashy arrangements or elaborate sessions. Recorded in New York, this album was crafted by Grammy-winning engineer Michael McDonald, who has faithfully captured every resonance of the guitar strings and the subtle tremor of the vocals.

The eight tracks included, such as 'That Winter,' 'On the Loneliness of Love,' and 'The Tree and the Child,' are all low and understated. Instead of the language of resistance, they sing of the universal sensations of solitude, time, longing, and farewell. The clear, high voice that once sang 'Morning Dew' now carries the weight of years of experience, and every word is conveyed not through words, but through the heart. The album quietly comes to a close with 'Just Before Falling Asleep,' a recitation of a passage from The Little Prince.

1991. As the immense fervor of the 1980s subsided and people began to turn their gaze inward, this album stood at that turning point and proved just how profound folk music can become, transcending time. Its inclusion in the list of the 100 greatest Korean popular music albums is merely the result.

This vinyl release is an opportunity to encounter this album again in a form that allows you to hear its minimalist sound in its most complete state. The music, filled with only a guitar and vocals, finally finds its place atop the warm and three-dimensional sound quality characteristic of LPs. ※ Playback failure

양희은은 1971년 '아침 이슬'로 데뷔한 이후 한국 대중음악의 상징으로 자리해 왔다.
군사 정권 아래 금지곡이 되어서도 사람들의 가슴속에서 사라지지 않았던 그 목소리는, 저항의 언어이자 시대의 증언이었다.
그러나 그녀는 하나의 이미지에 머무르지 않았다. 데뷔 20주년이 되는 해, 마흔이라는 나이 앞에서 그녀는 전혀 다른 목소리로 돌아왔다.

[양희은 1991]은 당시 오스트리아 유학 중이던 기타리스트 이병우와의 만남으로 탄생했다. 세대도, 공간도 달랐지만 두 사람의 음악적 교감은 완벽하게 맞아떨어졌다.
이병우의 어쿠스틱 기타 한 대와 양희은의 목소리, 그것이 이 앨범의 전부다. 화려한 편곡도, 풍성한 세션도 없다. 뉴욕에서 녹음된 이 앨범은 그래미 수상 경력의 엔지니어 마이클 맥도날드의 손을 거쳐, 기타 현의 잔향과 보컬의 미세한 떨림 하나까지 고스란히 담아냈다.

'그해 겨울', '사랑 그 쓸쓸함에 대하여', '나무와 아이' 등 수록된 여덟 곡은 모두 낮고 담담하다. 저항의 언어 대신 고독과 시간, 그리움과 이별의 보편적인 감각을 노래한다. '아침 이슬'을 부르던 맑고 높던 목소리는 이제 연륜의 무게를 품고, 한 마디 한 마디가 말이 아닌 마음으로 전해진다. 어린 왕자의 한 구절을 낭송한 '잠들기 바로 전'으로 앨범은 조용히 막을 내린다.

1980년대의 거대한 열기가 가라앉고, 사람들이 저마다의 내면으로 눈을 돌리기 시작하던 1991년. 이 앨범은 그 전환점에 서서 포크 음악이 시대를 초월해 얼마나 깊어질 수 있는지를 증명했다. 한국 대중음악 100대 명반에 이름을 올린 것은 그 결과일 뿐이다.

이번 바이닐 발매는 그 미니멀한 사운드를 가장 온전하게 들을 수 있는 형태로 이 앨범을 다시 만나는 기회다. 기타 한 대와 목소리만으로 채워진 음악은, LP 특유의 따뜻하고 입체적인 음질 위에서 비로소 제 자리를 찾는다. 1991년 처음 이 앨범을 들었던 이에게도, 지금 처음 바늘을 올려놓는 이에게도, [양희은 1991]은 여전히 조용히, 그리고 깊게 말을 건넨다.
